The Dragon Republic by R.F. Kuang

5.0

I enjoyed this book so much more than the first. The first was all about Rin and survival, but this book worked Rin and her relationships so beautifully into a story about survival. I cared more about the characters and was so FINALLY relieved that everyone finally stfu about Altan. I get now why Rin’s fixation on him was so important to her character growth. It was a slow journey, but when she finally breaks free of him and comes into her own and finds people who REALLY care about her…it was worth all the annoyance I felt at the first half of the story.

I also said I don’t think I would re-read the first book but I absolutely would re-read it again now knowing how much I like the second book.
