I remember being emotionally wrecked by Jandy Nelson's previous books and couldn't stop that from happening here as well. This book had a bit of a slow start, but once we got past the bit of backstory it picked up into a wild, emotional, and heartfelt story. I loved the characters. Each one was uniquely developed and I think the alternating POV's really moved the story along. this was a lot heavier than I anticipated, but I think the way Nelson described certain aspects was also well done. There was surprise Jewish rep! The Yiddish word for soulmate was brought up quite a bit and there was some acknowledgment of Hebrew and certain holidays which I also enjoyed seeing. The magical realism aspect was also cool and I think those parts advanced the plot as well. I couldn't stop reading and loved watching how the siblings' relationships with each other changed as the story went on.  This was one of my most anticipated books this year and I can wholeheartedly say that it fully delivered. I loved it and I'm excited to have it in my collection. Thank you to Penguin Teen for providing me with the ARC to read and review!
