“By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes.” - Shakespeare’s Macbeth

I want to live in Ray Bradbury’s writing. I don’t know of a better way to explain how beautiful it is or how I feel while I’m reading it.
•
On the surface, Something Wicked This Way Comes is the story of two barely teenage boys, Jim Nightshade and Will Halloway, and their misadventures with a circus come to town that’s much more than it seems.
•
The characters are fantastic.  The carnival freaks are a dark cast ready to parade their way right into your nightmares, the boys are friends sure to make you nostalgic for your own childhood, and Charles Halloway, Will’s father is dad goals.  My favorite, he works in a library and doesn’t even realize he holds the secrets to life; how good can conquer evil.

The descriptive imagery in Bradbury’s prose is perfection. There are so many lines to reread, to memorize, to whisper to yourself as you let them flow through your head, and your heart.
•
Deep down, this is a coming of age story, wrapped in fantasy and dipped in horror; a ride I never wanted to stop. It’s the perfect Halloween read and I would recommend it to any reader.

“Is Death important?  No. Everything that happens before death is what counts.”
