Further To Fall by Catherine Cowles
2.0
I love MMA Romance. I don't know why but I am always attracted to them so I was very excited to read this one.
Further to Fall is Catherine Cowles debut book where an elementary school teacher, the proverbial good girl and an up and coming MMA fighter come together.
While the story was nice, it just didn't check all the boxes I was hoping it was going to and by large I think it has to do with the heroine and her overall personality.
Carter is innocent and inexperienced and being around little children her use of "bad words" is non-existent and I completely loved that. It is such a novelty to find a character that is not battered or bruised from their past and is genuinely a good person and her friendship with Austin was my favourite.
But keeping all that aside Carter lacked. There is a fine line between being good and innocent and being naive and Carter was more of the latter. There were certain instances in the book where her gut instincts should have peaking and raising alarms but she was quiet and trustworthy. She honestly felt a tad mousy.
Throughout the story, I had hoped that she would grow and not be so blind to what was so obvious and happening right under her nose.
There was always this want for more.
I mean, don't get me wrong, the story is good but in terms of the development of the characters and plotline, it could have used more work. As I said, there was just something more that I was hoping for.
2.5 Stars!
