The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese
4.0
I’m torn on what to say about this one. The author’s storytelling was beautiful and he did a wonderful job narrating it. He expertly wove all of the different storylines together in a heartwarming and surprising way, which is why I’m rating it so highly.
However, at 31 hours (more than 700 pages), it was a very long book. I’m not against reading long books, obviously, but this felt too long at times and I don’t think it would have lost anything if it had been a little shorter. There were so many details and sometimes I even zoned out and wondered why they were relevant.
All that being said, The Covenant of Water was a beautiful multi-generational tale about love, loss, sacrifice, and so much more. If you’re willing to push through to the end, it’s definitely worth the read.
