Why aren't there more people talking about this book??? It's incredibly atmospheric, the magnetic quality of the bayou seeps into every page. Love the Gothic elements, how the town merges with the nature surrounding it, and as the buildings succumb to decay and the foul water drags everything to rot, people's secrets come to light and Eugene's mental integrity dissolves. Christianity of course adds to the feelings of wrongness and taboo (the final Church scene? whew!).

My heart was racing all through the second half. Spooky, queer, exquisite! Everything I want in a story.
