Being pulled back to 1815. Witnessing the start of her own lineage, her ancestors, their struggles and everyone’s fears. Dana was able to see the environment her ancestors lived in, all the way down to their food, and treatment from the slave owners. 

She also possibly saw where her attitude came from. She handled Rufus well, though each trip cost something - to someone. 

What would have happened if she hadn’t saved Rufus in time? What if Alice wouldn’t have been caught and brought back?

Dana had to see that 1815 was what it was and her being from 1976 didn’t make much of a difference.
