I didn't select any of the mood options because none of them quite fit...The Chosen and the Beautiful is glittering and sharp. Nick, Jordan, and Daisy, who always felt rather like background characters to me in the original, become fully fleshed out and much more interesting. I don't want to say too much, but there was so much more life and nuance in this book than I had expected or hoped for, and it surprised me when I thought there were no surprises left. I'm very glad to own a copy (which is now well dog-eared) and I can't wait to see what Vo does next.
