This book. This fucking book. I pre-ordered the ebook and got it as soon as it released because I knew I knew I needed to read it. And I was right. But the genocidal christiofacist cult was SO accurate I had to pace myself very carefully to avoid getting catastrophically triggered. This is not a dig at the book; honestly I kind of want to sit down and have a long conversation with Andrew Joseph White because it's rare that I find someone who so deeply understands the rotten heart of American Evangelicalism so deeply and awfully. Every bit of weaponized rhetoric, every hymn quoted, every bible verse, every moment that Benji thinks to himself something deeply Christian in a furious bloody way hits so hard it felt like having the wind knocked out of me. And the end of this book my god the end. I feel breathless with the catharsis of it all. This book is a treasure, a gift. I will be buying a physical copy to reread and mark up with highlighter and notes in pencil and pen. And to loan out to people I think should read it. Anything Andrew Joseph White writes after this will be in my hands as soon as I can get it, no questions asked. I might not even read the synposis.
