The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
2.0
Two stars and a half. To sum it up: meh...
I really can't see why everyone and their dogs made such a big fuss over this book. It's not badly written, but there isn't a clear story, a path to follow. In the beginning you keep reading expecting the story to take off any minute, but it never does. Reminded me very much of a South American soap opera. Good guys are 100% good and stupid, bad guys 100% bad and even more stupid, everything is easily predictable, I don't think there's a single surprise in the whole book.
