The author/narrator did a fantastic job, and it was interesting to see behind the scenes of audiobook narration. She argues against audiobooks narrated by AI, which was nice to see. Sewanee and Nick had chemistry and witty, organic banter. Sewanee has a complex relationship with her appearance because of an injury, and resentment over a life that could’ve been if the accident hadn’t happened. She stops herself from enjoying the life she created, which sometimes makes her unlikable. She underwent a nice evolution, but I wish she were nicer to her loved ones. One of the highlights was her relationship with her grandmother, who suffered from dementia, all their scenes were emotional. It was also quite funny.

There were too many subplots, so not all of them were properly resolved at the end. There is no diversity which was exacerbated by Adaku, the only POC character who was the stereotypical Black best friend.
The epilogue ruined it a little because made me side-eye both Nick and Sewanee.
Sewanee’s grandmother passed and they’re at the funeral. Nick proposes which I think is 1) in very bad taste because it’s at a funeral and also near a dumpster (WHAT?), and 2) way too fast for my liking because it’s only been a few months.
