This was a wild time for sure. I liked the modern idea of dukes and countesses, etc. in today's world. It was super fun to be part of all the family drama and the over-the-top feeling Kwan created with the story. That being said, I found parts of the book to be super exaggerated, which I get may be the point, but I just couldn't fathom some of the things that were happening. The billionaire and lavish lifestyle presented itself at every waking moment and because of that, I didn't feel like there was always a plot. I did love the diversity of characters though. From Chinese/English to Persian Jewish characters, Hindu and more I really appreciated that throughout. Freddie was delightful! I thought Arabella was insufferable. She was so whiny, and critical and attacked everyone else instead of looking in the mirror. Even by the end I was disappointed with her lack of character development. I did love Eden though. She was easily the best character in the whole book and didn't let insane amounts of money steer her away from basic human decency. There also was so much happening at times but also nothing at all if that makes sense and I was wondering if the book would get back on course. I did like the story, would have loved more of Rufus and Eden's love story to be explored rather than all the rich people drama. It was fun and I think I want to look at the physical book again too since I read the audio. I didn't love the narrator and think that contributed to my lack of awareness within the story.
