King Henry IV, Part 1 by William Shakespeare

5.0

I like the history plays and tragedies more than the comedies. This is excellent. Very easy to read, full of humour, seriousness, foreboding and wisdom, Oh and Falstaff, who I love.

I particularly liked the kings advice to his young wayward prince on how to be royal.. to keep private, appear only occasionally. As he himself had..
‘By being seldom seen, I could not stir but like a comet I was wondered at’.
Whereas the old king…

‘That, being daily swallowed by men’s eyes, they surfeited with honey and began to loathe the taste of sweetness, whereof a little
more than a little is by much too much.’.
Until he had became like a cuckoo in June ‘ heard, not regarded’. Interesting advice for a prince maybe?

Anyway, Shakespeare, ever relevant.
