The Sandman Vol. 6: Fables & Reflections by Neil Gaiman

5.0

Storytelling at its best.

The volume collects several stories that are loosely linked; the stories are varied, and go through several time periods and historical characters that are quite interesting; I was amazed to find out how much of Gaiman's stories from this volume are made from real characters and real stories.

A great reinterpretation of Orpheus' myth, as well as other myths as well, with fresh reinterpretations. Amazingly drawn, and all that. :) But the stories are just amazing.

Revisiting this after quite some time, I find it amazing still. I love how important story-telling is. I understand a bit better how much different, how powerful the split from 'traditional' comic books Gaiman goes.

I can't pick favorites out of the independent stories, but they are all the kind that make you stop after reading, and reflect. I think that's where the 'reflections' from the title of the volume comes from. So far, it feels like the most complete, round volume of The Sandman series.
