Sisters of the Yam: Black Women and Self-Recovery by bell hooks

4.0

Of course this excellently written and raises important points. It's not exclusively for Black women, none of her books are meant to be exclusive, but it is particularly validating for anyone who has the experience of being a Black presenting woman.

My only critical feelings about this book is that parts do come off as fat-phobic and therefore not holistically combatting capitalism or white supremacy. To me, enough nuance is not presented either to indicate that the intent was not to be shaming toward certain body types and that she was really coming from a purely "health" mindset.
