By the Book by Jasmine Guillory

3.0

Type of read: Commuter Read.

What made me pick it up: I read 'If The Shoe Fits' and I liked the vibe of the Meant to Be series. I'm definitely a Disney adult and this series is the perfect Disney but not mix.

Overall rating: I looked back on my review of the first book in the Meant to Be series and I feel like a lot of that carries over into 'By the Book.' It's a little cheesy and quite a bit predictable...but in the perfect sort of way. Sometimes the fairy tale integration seems a bit forced like you knew they were using it for inspiration but didn't quite know how to rewrite it for a real-world book. Additionally, there are a few points in this book that are cringe. Like, who doesn't think of having crackers with brie if they are a self-professed snack foodie? While that's just one example, there were a few times when the writing was weird and unnatural, almost like Guillory didn't trust their reader to know what things were. Like the first book in the series, I'd categorize this as a great airplane read. It's light, easy, and predictable, but it has enough guts to keep you entertained without having to pay too close attention. Not mad about it.
