Another excellent book in this series which is a story set on dual timelines (present day and the 1990s). We learn about DCI Daley's early years with the Scottish Police as both a PC and DS. The story flows beautifully with superb writing. As always the characters are wonderful. Brian Scott is now totally sober and trying to keep fit, whereas Jim Daley is drinking more than is good for him. His ex-wife is, as always, causing problems.

The narration by David Monteith is sublime. This is one of my favourite books in the series.
