English as a second language teaching note: This is a great opportunity to use audio with text in the classroom. If this book is being taught alongside a discussion of US racism, it is helpful to read at least some of the text read by an African American narrator. Discussion of accent and slang divisions among races in the US is an interesting in-class discussion.
