The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien

5.0

5/5 "it was amazing"
Recommended reading. Will re-read.

It's probably been at least a decade since the last time I read The Lord of the Rings. Definitely a story I appreciate more now as the years have passed, and I suspect my appreciation will grow further the next time I read it.

Found myself on the verge of tears more than once during Return of the King. So much honor, character, valor, kindness, loyalty, dignity, respect...it goes on and on. There so many praiseworthy aspects of this epic. Even just the simpler, older style of English used is refreshing in some way.

The only "flaw" I really can think of--and of course this is purely my opinion--is that the conclusion describing the scouring of the Shire felt like a sort of unnecessary addition; a little superfluous, perhaps. I'd be curious to hear an interpretation on those chapters from someone who thinks more deeply of this story than I do.

(conditionally "finished." In reality, for the first time, I did NOT read the appendices.)
