Despite my extreme annoyance at how horribly cliche and lazy The Prophet is as a character, the other 80% of this story is truly delightful.

I will say the pacing ebbs and flows because of the structuring that went into the various time periods and multiple characters (and their perspectives). The Prophet is pretty much useless to the story other than for some thrill-centric plot points and a “oh, that’s sad” backstory for a different character. He’s also so boringly cliche as the violent, smiling cult leader who uses the Bible to spout off nonsense.

Nonetheless, I did thoroughly enjoy the rest of the well-written characters, the layers of intrigue that the book maintains throughout, and the overall tone that is wrapped around the titular comics. Seeing Shakespeare in the apocalypse is also truly fun and meaningful.
