Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim
5.0
This book really blew me away with its heart-aching story and amazing characters!
Six Crimson Cranes is a retelling of one of the Grimm brothers stories so I knew the basics of what this story was going to be about. But I definitely didn’t expect a book as good and heart wrenching as this one.
From the first page I was stuck and I wanted to find out how Shiori was going to get out of the mess that had been created. She’s stuck far away from home without a voice — literally — how will she save her brothers and return home safely to do what has to be done?
The fact that Lim managed to make the main character Shiori gain beautiful friendships and new life lessons even though she couldn’t speak to the people around her is truly astounding. She forms such wonderful friendships and manages to push through even though she can’t rely on her voice, nor ask for help by writing. It baffles me how a story can be so rich and feelings between characters can be so deep and evident even though they don’t actually speak to one another.
Fantasy, love, vengeance and secrets are just some of the things you’ll get when you read this book. You’ll not be able to put this one down.
I can’t wait for the second book in the series and I will make sure to read more of Lim!
