Dubliners by James Joyce
5.0
This is one of short story novel(la)s that I've added to my favourite! It may be boring if you read it in a quick way, but each of the short story actually offers something more and I like listening to a discussion about each of them. While I love all the stories, if I have to pick a fav, it would be:
Araby
A young boy had a crush of his friend's sister. He'd promised to get her something from Araby. But he ended up going back home empty handed because he realised something...
It's the journey of him going there at night that left me pondering.
A Little Cloud
Two old friends meeting again after eight years. Little Chandler always thought he could do better than his friend Gallaher, as he did at school. The only thing that kept him was his shyness, or so he thought. Chandler is described as that good guy and Gallaher a wild and a traveler. During the meeting, Chandler realised that now Gallaher became famous; and Chandler began to wonder how he could change his current life so he could be free to realise his dream.
The Boarding House
a butcher's daughter, Mrs. Mooney married her father's foreman. But after her father died, her husband began to drink and ran into debt. She decided to separate from him, sell her butcher shop and opened a boarding house. Her daughter was a wild, flirtatious girl. She was meant to entertain the young men, but she began to give a special attention to one particular young man named Mr. Doran. She got pregnant. Now Mr. Doran had to face her mother. The end of the story made me think,"oh! It's a twist! I knew it!!" ~~~~ I'm not gonna tell the entire story or what the twist is! You haven't read? Please do! ~~~~
