Mother Tongue Notes: In general, Mo Willems’ books include many contractions, conversational words or phrases and onomatopoeias . Examples in this book are: y’know, whaa?, scoot, and chomp. If dividing the reading, the more advanced reader should take the pigeon’s lines.

Discuss polite words and phrases used in conversation. Emphasize the use of “please” in English, versus a lack of equivalent in Swedish, or use of “tack”.
