I Fear My Pain Interests You by Stephanie LaCava

1.0

Bordering on 2. Could have easily received 1 star.

Read reviews for this after purchasing it. Was shocked that such a captivating premise could result in such poor ratings. Yet, the more I read, the less I wanted to continue. I usually enjoy books of this nature but the first half of the book held no weight at all in the second half — simply choppy, fragmented, poorly-executed vignettes from Margot’s childhood onwards. Page 105 out of 182 was when the book actually began, and I was excited to finally get into the relationship between Margot and Graves, but again, the two characters fell flat. Their stories both underdeveloped so that when the twists popped up, they just left me feeling like ‘…oh okay.’ If the book was just the final 80 pages, but fleshed out and really explored, I’m sure I would have loved it. Instead, this story is clumsy, clunky, and an unsatisfying read. :///
