When she saw the goddess kissing the little boy, leaving her out, Diane managed to move beyond her pain and remember that some day she would become Queen, not out of personal ambition, but in order to hand the crown to her mother and console her for everything in her life that seemed so constricting.
what was that ending? books like this are a stark reminder of the importance of a satisfying close to a story — good or bad, at least make it satisfying, especially if the story is short. i did enjoy this little exploration of one of the most intricate bonds in the world (the mother/daughter relationship), the narrative maintained a solid fast pace too but i can't say i'd reread this or even recommend it
