Sheltering Rain by Jojo Moyes

4.0

I needed a book to read while I was staying with my boyfriend's family, and this was on the shelf. I loved the Me Before You series, so didn't hesitate about choosing this one (especially since the rest of the books on the shelves were mainly autobiographies of sports personalities - not my style!). I always find that I'm drawn to 'chicklit', and I'm trying to just embrace it instead of feeling inadequate or embarrassed. I'll still get round to those (modern) classics, but there's no harm in something that is easy to read. And that's exactly what this was - an easy read, with interesting and engaging characters. I liked that not everyone was perfect - the ones you thought you hated turned out to have a softer side, and the ones you initially liked turned out to have their own stories. Whilst the events of the novel tended to the fantastical side, it was uncomplicated and interesting, and I didn't really want to stop reading it, which is obviously a good sign.

(Personal reflection - Eddie challenged me to read 40 pages in 25 minutes, and I failed by 5 minutes, but probably could've whizzed through them if I hadn't constantly been looking at the page numbers and my watch. Not enjoyable! Don't read to time! Read for enjoyment!)
