This book was fine. A little slow in the beginning, fun in the middle, and then it dragged towards the end. I really did enjoy Josh’s character, and I liked the plotline of Lucy being lonely, but, unfortunately, they pretty much dropped that plotline during the last 50 pages and never wrapped it up.
There really were just a bunch of little annoyances that built up over the length of the book to make it impossible for me to give this more than 3 stars. These annoyances were, in no particular order, the emphasis on Lucy being tiny and how Mr. Bexley was fat, the instances on going in circles over “does Lucy hate him or does she love him,” Lucy’s instances on objectifying Josh throughout like 350 out of the 388 pages of the book despite him saying he doesn’t like that, and the fact that for an entire book set in a publishing house...it doesn’t really mention books all that much. It is made very clear that this is Lucy’s dream job but like...why? She mentions books once, maybe twice, over the span of the entire book. That last point is more of a minor annoyance than an actual critique of the book, but once you notice it, you really cannot stop noticing it.
Overall, the book was fun but not really a must read for me. In general, I prefer my romances to come with less fatphobia.
Moderate: Fatphobia
