Well, damn. This series is truly just insanely good!!
This book was extremely different from the first one, but somehow feels like it fits perfectly!
To summarize why this book is absolutely amazing:
The world-building is so unique and compelling, the characters are extremely interesting, thoroughly developed and surprisingly easy to root for (despite their flaws and mistakes), the romance is heavily layered, the friendships/family bonds run deep and true, the writing is simply amazing, the pacing is unbelievably pleasant, and the plot is just SO GOOD!!
This story really brought out all the emotions in me: frustration, despair, wonder, pride, vengeance, giddiness, grief, suspense, anger and love!
For the people interested in the romance part (which is not at all the only thing this book has to offer, but still, it’s important), you can trust me on this: We truly get an amazing star-crossed lovers tale here that has so much pain and self-loathing, but also so much hope and longing! These two enemies cannot help but keep coming back to each other, even against so much betrayal and heartbreak!! It’s not easy for them though, and we definitely have to wait for a happy ending!
All in all, this came pretty close to perfection for me! The fact that this book manages to have so much depth filled with amazing characters arcs while also having a deeply engrossing plot with great twists? Yea, that’s pretty much perfection.
'Daughter of Smoke & Bone' trilogy:
1. Daughter of Smoke and Bone - 4.5 stars
2. Days of Blood and Starlight - 5.0 stars
3. Dreams of Gods and Monsters - 4.5 stars
Novella:
1.5. Night of Cake and Puppets - 4.5 stars
