King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo
5.0
Oh wow! This book was extremely good, it was excellent and I am surprised.
After the debacle, the tragedy, the absolute fail of Ruin and Rising I said I wasn’t going to read her books anymore. I couldn’t believe she could finish her astounding trilogy with that ending.
Little did I know she had this book in her plans. I can now forgive the less-than-good series finale with this great masterpiece.
I didn’t read the Six of Crows duology because all of the previous reasons, but when I saw this one was about Nikolai, well... I had to. Even at the risk of being utterly disappointed again.
I didn’t need to worry.
The book picks up 3 years after the civil war that ended with the Darkilng’s death. Ravka is, as always, unstable and we see our charming king trying his best to maintain control and avoid war. In the meantime he struggles with inner issues.
The King of Scars give us rich and different perspectives. I personally love Zoya’s POV. But there’s also Nina, Aidrik and Leonic; Nikolai, the triumvirate and Isaak.
While Nikolai is traveling through Ravka, trailing a series of suspicious “miracles” trying to get rid of his own nightmares, they stumble into the biggest plot twist ever. Be prepared to the ending, though (insert evil laugh).
Thank you, Bardugo. Please don’t ruin the next one, please?
