Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman
5.0
First of all, I just wanna say that this book doesn't belong to the romance genre. It's not a love story, imo. Just like 500 days of Summer, it's a STORY ABOUT LOVE.
Objectively, I thought the writing was amazing! Yes, pretentious sometimes, but there were moments that I felt like I was floating in the air while reading some of the best similes I've ever read. The symbolic chapters were just too riveting. Usually, when I read, I don't care about the mundane things for the sake of character development for I am a plot-driven reader. But in this book, I didn't care if there wasn't anything that was happening. Aciman lured me into the story through the poignancy of his word choice and the seductive atmosphere and romantic tensions.
In terms of character, Elio could be creepy at times, I could understand that since he was a teenager. Sometimes, I felt that Oliver was a caricature, probably because the story was more focused on Elio.
Not a perfect book. There were some problematic issues I've seen especially with desire and obsession (which was the main point of the novel, that's why I don't want to call this as romance), but you know what, I don't give a shit.
It's one of my favorites!
