The Parent Compass: Navigating Your Teen's Wellness and Academic Journey in Today's Competitive World by Cynthia Clumeck Muchnick, Jenn Bowie Curtis
5.0
I have stepkids who are now adults and two elementary school aged kids, yet this book still applies to me and is a terrific guide on what to do now and in the future.
Like Cynthia, I live in an area where academics is extremely competitive, yet growing up, it was not that way for me. We strove to get good grades, volunteered in our church and community, had part time jobs, did sports, etc, but there was never an extreme pressure to have tutors or help with your college essay. Today is a different world and as a parent, I want my children to have a good balance of education while also trying new things to see what they like, might want to do and what their future will hold.
I don't want them to stress out over grades to the point of not getting sleep or losing themselves and this THE PARENT COMPASS is a terrific guide on ensuring your child gets that balance while also succeeding and making sure you, the parent encourage your child without trying to live vicariously through them!
This should be a must-read for all parents before their child is a teen!
