I just want to scream how good this book is. That's all.
It's a story about a young pregnant girl who runs away from the religious cult and gives birth to twins in the woods. Wanting to stay there, be completely wild, and raise her kids without the constraints of society, she has to fight nature and the creepy hunter set after her. But the situation complicates even more when her body starts to change. And of course, the only one who has answers to what the hell is happening to her is the cult she ran away from.
This story is powerful, impactful, engaging, sad, and eerie. It's about blackness, womanhood, motherhood, queerness, anger, and hunger. About living in an unfair world that sees you as a commodity, about dehumanization and biopolitics. About community, love, and survival. The cult is properly disturbing, the mystery keeps you on the edge of the seat and the body horror is just all-around amazing (if you like the stuff like that). It's a hard book to read, but it's also full of hope and has a lot of beautiful imagery and moments of calm.
Slow paced and atmospheric, it's mostly character based with interesting scifi plot.
