This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger

This was an amazing read! I know it has been compared to Where the Crawdads Sing a lot and I agree, it does have the same feeling to it, but it also reminded me of Huckleberry Finn. Set during the Great Depression the book follows a group of orphaned kids escaping the horrors of their Native American Boarding School in hopes of finding a place to call home. Along a journey to freedom fraught with danger, they become a family, find themselves and learn that home truly is where the heart is. An instant classic.
