The Thing Around Your Neck by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

4.0

I feel bad saying this because Adichie is such a fantastic writer and her command of language is incredible, but I just didn’t vibe with this book as much as I wanted to. The stories that did grab me were fantastic reads—namely “On Monday of Last Week,” “The American Embassy,” “The Shivering” and “The Arrangers of Marriage”—but most of the others fell flat in terms of personal enjoyment.

With that being said, I still appreciate Adichie’s particular brand of wit and nuance and now it shines through in each story. The significance of each one is undeniable regardless of my personal feelings on them and I’m looking forward to reading more from her!
