"I always rise again."
Is there anything more terrifying in Hollywood than *gasp* a remake?
That's the kicking-off point for Brian McAuley's Curse Of The Reaper. But personal demons aren't just for film.
Howard Browning's acting career was spent playing the title character of The Reaper in a cult-favourite horror movie franchise. He was ready to hang up his rusty chains and retire. Until he learns of plans to reboot the series with an entirely new lead actor.
Enter sitcom star Trevor Mane. He's newly out of rehab and not sure he wants to be pigeonholed as an already-iconic character.
This is an interesting and unexpected take on a horror story - Trevor navigating his addiction while stepping toward a famous role, and Howard's dementia symptoms may be something else entirely unmedical.
After all, life can be more nightmare than the movies.
Curse Of The Reaper is great stuff, a perfect mix of heart and horror. Recommended!
