The Husky & His White Cat Shizun: Erha He Ta De Bai Mao Shizun (Novel) Vol. 6 by Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou
4.0
The first sentence on the blurb sums up what this book is about very well: the calm before the storm. I have so much to say on this volume, being the first one I'm reading from the official english translation. I had finished the MTL before these were even announced, and coming back to these characters after many years feels like home, I missed them a lot. I hope this review gives it justice, although I'm sure I'll just ramble too much lol
First of all, a fantastic book in terms of relationship development for MR and CWN. I truly adore how they're at a stage where MR knows how CWN's mind works and avoids having any misunderstanding. CWN's insecurity is still present, but MR's praise and his company helps him in actually showing his feelings and thoughts. It's adorable. I also want to mention that the nsfw scenes are a delight, Meatbun's pen is truly something else.
Now onto the plot, it feels like a bad omen is about to fall, which is exactly the right sentiment. Even if MR and CWN are in their own world, things around them are getting complicated, and something is discovered that will threaten what they have together. Since it's a reread for me, it was easy to identify the foreshadowing and this is one of things I love the most about this novel, it's so well done! There are clues everywhere, but at first the reader lets them pass because you don't imagine it's going down that route. Sure, you can guess a few, but the upcoming plot twists in the future novels caught me off guard, so it was nice to reread and be able to check that they make sense within the story and the author isn't just pulling it off out of nowhere (which does happen later near the end and it's one of my very few criticisms, but not yet!).
About the side characters, I feel very nostalgic, because you can feel that things will go wrong soon. For Xue Meng, my mind goes "poor guy" because he starts suspecting something between CWN and MR, he trusts them so much that he believes in what they say. For Shi Mei, I used to dislike him in my first reading, but I never hated him, I can't wait to see more of him in the future again, he had always intrigued me and he becomes a more complex character than in past volumes which makes it fun. For NGS and YWX, I feel like MR, watching them from afar and hoping for the best between them.
I wanted to keep this review as spoiler free as possible, at least during the first paragraphs, but heads up for spoilers from the rest of the novel: I think I'm the saddest about how everything seems alright now but.
Other than that, I also wanted to mention that these volumes are way too short! I admit it makes sense to be cut them off on certain chapters (so far I believe it goes well with the plot progression) but it still felt like it was over too soon. I'm looking forward for volume 8, because the scenes from that one are so juicy and full of drama and pain... my favorite flavour. It's a very solid 4-4.5, the only reason I don't give it 5 is because while I enjoyed the progression on the plot and the couple, it was very short and I'm not the biggest fan of this arc, although the mistery is well executed and interesting, it's just that I'm waiting for more action packed chapters that are coming.

then I remember how betrayed XM feels about his shizun and cousin's relationship, the JX reveal and how devastating his journey is, as well as the whole SM thing with HBN (I have mixed feelings about this, but I'll expand on them once their time comes). Besides that, I was in pain during the NGS and YWX scenes, I wish things went different for them. I also felt freaking nervous the whole time CWN had visions about TXJ because holy shit, his time to appear is very soon, those chapters are some of my favorite because I'm a masochist lolOther than that, I also wanted to mention that these volumes are way too short!
