Hunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton
3.0
Hunting Adeline is book #2 in the Cat and Mouse Duet by H.D. Carlton, an extremely dark romance between Adeline, known as The Diamond in this book, and Zade, The Hunter. This sequel continues their relationship from Haunting Adeline after Adeline is kidnapped by human traffickers.
It is definitely a dark romance, with strong horror and thriller elements. Definitely horror is how I would describe this book, more so than a romance actually. So I will say again how it is very important to read the content warnings for this duet, especially with this second book which is much darker than the first. There were many sections of the book where I was so horrified I almost had to DNF the book. It did take me quite some time to get through the book due to the harrowing descriptions of abuse.
In terms of the romance, the spicy scenes just aren't my favourite as I don't love the writing style and some of the phrases and terminology that are used, but that is just personal preference. Some parts I couldn't help but cringe.
I definitely think Haunting Adeline needed this sequel and it works well as a duology. The plot definitely carries this book and there is even some good character development. If you enjoy dark romance and haven't read this duet yet I would recommend it, but for those who aren't accustomed to dark romance, I would pick up something more simple and straightforward first.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5
