The Case of the Lonely One by John Allison
4.0
The premise for this volume is absolutely hilarious: Shauna Wickle has to investigate the mystery of why all the kids in her class (including her teen detective pals) seem suddenly taken by a weird new kid who eats raw onions? The art quality continues to be really solid four volumes into this series, and the jokes are very funny. My only issue with this character is that there may be some fatphobia associated with the depiction of the larger nerd girl and new enemy, Blossom. Allison says in the end notes that Blossom is his favourite and he admires how she doesn't back down, so I'm hopeful she'll have a bit more nuance in future volumes, but it's a bit of a problem that the only bigger school-kid that we've met has been a jealous villain.
