What can I say, except GO READ THIS BOOK!!!
I don’t even know where to start, it was just so so good! The writing, the characterization, the atmospheric setting. Everything about it contributed to make such a wonderful, whimsical story.
Laini Taylor’s prose is breathtakingly beautiful. Every line is laced with whimsy. Writing filled with imagery to this extent doesn’t always work for me, but it matched the dreamy and mysterious setting of Weep so perfectly!
I was absolutely enthralled from page one, as the secrets of Weep are slowly revealed, and though the middle dragged a little, I didn’t mind, as I got to spend more time with Lazlo and Sarai! The “big reveal” was a little too convenient to my liking, but looking back at all the foreshadowing, it was also very satisfying, and the ending was phenomenal!
I also love Taylor’s characters! Lazlo is so comforting, and witnessing his wonder and his pure wish to help everyone around him, is like being wrapped in a warm hug. His romance with Sarai was also an absolute joy to follow, although it was slightly rushed.
It is a multiple POV book, mainly following Lazlo and Sarai, but with glimpses into other characters. This element added so much to the story, as I got to understand the overarching conflict of the story through each of their complex experiences and motives.
In short, this book is close to perfection! If you enjoy magic, gods, complicated character relationships, and whimsy, you’ll absolutely love this!
