So, here's the thing. Popular & hyped books intimidate me. Always have. Because what if I don't love it as much as the rest of the world seems to? Soul Eater is one of those books. I've been putting off starting this for ages. And then today, at random, I decided to say fuck it and I started reading it. And man, do I wish I'd done so sooner.
I can't believe this is Lily's debut novel. It's just so good. The writing and pacing are excellent, the characters leap off the pages, and the romance is just perfect. I can see why some would say that there's not much plot going on, but I didn't feel that way. It all just felt right to me. The whole book was written so well that it played out like a movie in my head. The worldbuilding is stunning too. I'm always hesitant about dystopian/post-apocalyptic books, but this one definitely did not disappoint.
As for the characters? For the most part, it's just Wyn and Danny, with occasional others popping up, both good and bad. Which I didn't mind because I adored these two. I felt for Danny right from the start. He's such a kind-hearted, soft soul and I really just wanted to hug him. Wyn has a terrifying reputation, but there's a lot more to him than meets the eye. Even a "monster" deals with insecurities and Wyn also just made me want to hug him. These two are precious and their romance is beautiful. And the spicy scenes? WHEW. Fire, I tells ya.
So what does one do when one finally pulled their head out of their ass and promptly fell in love just like the rest of the world? One goes off to binge the rest of the series, that's what. So off to book 2, which will be Edin's story.
