AAAAAAHHHH that ending!!
This was a beautiful story, although incredibly dark, and made even more chilling by the fact it was based on true events. I was drawn in from from the first line, and was completely hooked for the whole book.
The relationship between Maren and Ursa was beautiful, and all of the characters were so well written it hurt to read about them suffering. In fact, the whole book was incredibly well written, and the writing style was just *chef's kiss*. The descriptions of Vardø made the island truly come alive, to the point it felt almost tangible.
It's rare I feel such intense hatred of a character that I have to put a book down, but Absalom made me do just that. And the ending??!!! Absolutely heartbreaking!
As she steps forward, her thoughts are of Ursa, how she was the first and only one to ever know her. How that is enough.
