Madly, Deeply: The Diaries of Alan Rickman by Alan Rickman

3.0

Enjoyed this. A good way to slow down. Considering he didn’t know these would be published he could have been meaner. I certainly am when I write. These don’t get too personal which is fine, he was still an opinionated person and often witty.

Something that struck me was the tiny glimpses we got of his political/personal beliefs and how there were inconsistencies. To be expected. For example: he was an ardent supporter of a liberated Palestine, directing and producing a play (My Name is Rachel Corrie) that was protested of course. However, he also mentions finding Borat extremely funny. Odd since a lot of the humor in Borat is at the expense of Arab/islamic people. It’s just interesting to think about how we all have inconsistencies that we may not be cognizant of.

Anyway, I enjoyed my time with Alan. Will definitely be spending more time with his work.
