I didn't review this back in 2021 when I read it initially and back then it was a 4 star read. Now, two years later, after a relisten through audiobook - I'm dropping it to 3 stars.
This novella's MC Sankofa, aka the Adopted Daughter of Death, is trying to find the box she had as a child and has been wandering around for years. The story begins with where Sankofa is currently, then jumps back in time to show her past as Fatima. You learn she forgot her name after a certain incident occurs.
This story is all about purpose.
I definitely didn't enjoy this as much as I did a couple years ago, but it was still a good and short read. I enjoy Okorafor's writing style and hope to pick up their other works soon!
