Lost in Translation: An Illustrated Compendium of Untranslatable Words from Around the World by Ella Frances Sanders

5.0

I am actually giving this book a 4.5 but rounding up to 5 for GR. I know that .5 of a star might sound petty to some but I am doing it because of the one flaw I saw int her book: it should have been longer. I do not feel I should take off a whole star for this, therefore I went with half a star.

This really was a beautiful book. I am not just saying that because I am obsessed with language either. I challenge anyone who reads this book to say it is not beautiful. It gives the meanings of words used around the world that only exist in one language and cannot be translated. Each word has it's definition and illustrations to go along with it. I loved learning these new words and felt myself longing for English words that carried the same meaning. I decided I will just have to start using some of these words from now on because after learning of them they seem necessary in my life. Like I said, the only thing I was a little unhappy about was the length of the book. I would have loved for it to be longer and I hope that eventually Sanders will release more books like this one with different words.
