Ask Anyone by Sherryl Woods
3.0
This is the third in the Trinity Harbor trilogy and although I think it was the best written of the three, there were some elements I disliked intensely. Tucker and Mary Elizabeth were childhood sweethearts and lovers, and then Mary Elizabeth dumped him for a politician guy who was unfaithful all during their marriage, then when he's killed, she returns to Tucker to ask for his help. And then it turns out that he had never stopped loving her and accedes to help her investigate the murder. I had a hard time accepting Tucker's kindness to his former lover, even less the fact that he was still hopelessly in love with her. When it is revealed that she was unhappy in her marriage all I could think was: serves you right, for choosing frosting over substance. It wasn't until near the end of the book that I sorta felt better about Mary Elizabeth, cos through the book she got the grief I thought she deserved from several townspeople. I felt ready to forgive her then.
