Not a Happy Family by Shari Lapena

4.0

Brecken Hill is a very expensive neighbourhood to live in. The Merton’s have a very beautiful family home there and its thanksgiving weekend. They are very wealthy and have done well for themselves. They are having their adult children and their spouses over for Easter dinner. On the outside they seem like a loving family gathering for the holiday, but on the inside its very different. Fred Merton is a ruthless man who loves to belittle and humiliate his 3 children. Shelia, his wife just stands by and doesn’t intervene.
Easter dinner goes as expected with everyone leaving angrily after Fred’s dinner speech. Fred and Shelia Merton are later found dead. Brutally murdered in their own home.
The police launch their investigation and uncover information that could point to anyone being the killer. The police focus in the 3 children as they have the most to gain from the will.
As the investigation continues many other suspects come into play each with their own motive.
This was another great Shari Lapena read. A whodunit with many characters at play all guilt of something and all having a motive for murder.
