I wanted to like this much more than I did. There were two hold-ups for me: 1) the writing style is very lyrical. I respect that! But I don't enjoy it and it made the story feel very fractured and the world hard to understand. 2) The ending! This would likely have been four stars but the ending was very abrupt. I was reading this as an ebook, still had 15% or so of the book to go, finished a paragraph, turned the page and saw "read an excerpt from Kai Ashante Wilson's next novella!" No real wrap-up or close to the story.
