Heartstopper Volume 1 by Alice Oseman
4.0
Rounded down from around 4.5 stars ⭐️
Heartstopper is a graphic novel based on Charlie and Nick. Two teens boys who meet and develop a strong friendship. But as time passes, could there be something more going on between them?
I decided to pick this up as a quick Valentine’s read and I am so glad I did. My heart feels so full and happy. I have never before read a graphic novel and I really enjoyed the experience. I don’t think I’ll make them a regular thing, but I will definitely read more (especially the rest of the ones in this series). I am so glad I branched out of my comfort zone with this one. I felt like I was dragged straight back to my days as a teen. The same emotions and scenarios were playing out in front of my eyes.
I have completely fallen in love with Nick and Charlie and I can now see why this has become such a big hit. The charm just oozes from the pages. Nellie is one of my favourite characters of any book! I loved that this book made my heart feel so happy and light. But what I love most is the incredible importance and significance it may hold for people who are struggling with their own identity and feelings. I think this could be such an important read for LGBT+ teens/adults but it has important lessons for teens and adults that are not LGBT+ too.
I recommend this to graphic novel fans, or for anyone wanting to explore LGBT+ identities or learn more about them. This is also more suited for fans of young adult fiction.
