The Resurrectionist: The Lost Work of Dr. Spencer Black by E.B. Hudspeth

dark

3.5

The Resurrectionist is built on a highly original concept: mythological creatures are extinct animals that are part of the evolutionary chain.

The first half of the book is a biography of Dr Spencer Black. This part felt quite sterile, which is typical of most biographies. I think that part could've been livened up with some journal entries or correspondence from the people around Dr Black, like his wife, eldest son, or the carnival employees he worked with.

The second half of the book is the true prize. It features anatomically accurate illustrations of Dr Black's work, complete with labels for bones and muscles.

This may be worth a read if you like books where horror and fantasy intertwine.
