Update #1 Rating (1/18/21): 5 stars
I liked this better than the first time I read it! I think I understood the plot better and I actually really, really enjoyed the entirety of it - the plot, that characters, SNOWBAZ!
Original Rating: 4.5
This book was weird for me because I liked it but I didn't get entirely into it? It was well-written and the characters were amazing but the plot didn't really click for me? I mean, I understood it and everything it just wasn't "wow" for me.
I think most of the reason I really liked this was because of the characters (and Snowbaz, duh) - I feel like they were super three-dimensional and great! Simon was so adorable and Baz was just perfect (he giggles a lot and I LOVE THAT) and Penny was like the Hermione and she was just great too.
Speaking of comparisons to Harry Potter, this was pretty darn similar - the magic school, the "Chosen One", the father figure who the main character trusts but who actually is okay with putting said main character into danger (even if they might not really want to), and the whole idea of only the most powerful families attending this magic school, and a lot of the characters had similar roles (but Ginny is wayy cooler than Agatha lol). Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed it - it was like reading another HP series, just with more prominent contemporary references, more swearing, and also Drarry is canon lol (once again - Snowbaz is so great, I love them).
Also that part when Simon was mad that Baz flirted with Agatha and Baz was like "I was only flirting it's not like I tried to feed her to a CHIMERA" what is that implying lol? Like is trying to feed someone to a chimera the ultimate romantic move in the mage world? Baz is so wild and I love it lol
I think I'm gonna try and read Fangirl now - which was written before Carry On? Idk lol we'll see
